SAFETY IN THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS

The U.S. Virgin Islands—St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix—are generally safe for residents and visitors, but like many destinations, they have areas and situations that require caution and awareness. Popular tourist zones, beaches, and resorts are typically well-patrolled and considered safe. Locals are friendly and helpful, and crime against tourists is relatively rare when basic precautions are taken. The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) maintains a strong presence across all islands and has precincts in major towns. 911 Emergency Services are available, though response times can vary, especially in more remote areas.

Hurricane season runs from June through November, so preparedness is essential for homeowners and investors. When it comes to water, tap water may not always be potable many of us residents use cisterns or bottled water.
